Will it bring people to ask you another question about Choice Theory? How do we engage with people? This workshop is designed to assist William Glasser practitioners to succinctly and successfully interest potential new users at a perchance encounter.
This workshop explores the 'hooks' and 'connectors' vital to an initial conversation regarding Choice Theory that leaves the listener wanting more information. We know that CT/RT underpins all aspects of life, in particular school and education environments but how can we apply it to many more environments. Come and expand on your repertoire and share with others what inspires you to spread the word and work of William Glasser.

Workshop 11:
In the Driving Seat, Mercedas Taaffe
In 2006 "In The Driving Seat" was published by the William Glasser Institute Ireland. It is effectively an RT course for young people geared towards delivery in a school setting. When it came to finding a research topic for my Master's thesis I wanted to use the opportunity to highlight the effectiveness of RT, particularly in an environment where RT hasn't as yet been well established. In academic settings there is a need for more clinical trials to convince people of the effectiveness of RT. Several researchers in the field make the argument that research findings could be enhanced if interventions were pilot tested first, to test their acceptability and adaptability to a clinical setting (McLeod & Weisz, 2004).
Furthermore, most child and adolescent interventions focus on treatment of psychopathology, or mood disturbance. Few interventions have taken a prevention focus, and incorporated treatment components that aim to enhance the psychologically protective or resilience factors (Pray, 2000) that predict good social and academic adjustment in children, and improved transition to adolescence and adulthood (Masten et al., 2004).
Workshop 12
WDEP and LEAD MANAGEMENT - RIDE the Want, Garry Garnaut
As a Principal of a school in Adelaide experiencing the many complexities of dealing with students from year 6 to 12 who experience the compounding issues of disadvantage. I have found my training in Choice Theory invaluable in saving my sanity and assisting me to support my colleagues and students to take ownership of who they are by learning to self evaluate and own your own behaviour. And for that matter, learning to self evaluate myself and see that my personal journey of integrating Choice Theory into who I am is still evolving. The classic metaphor for teaching Reality Therapy Want, Do, Evaluate, Plan (WDEP) I often find in my environment is in need of fine tuning. Lead Management talks about the six L's of Lead Management Listening, Learning, Loving Relationships, Leading, Levelling and Limiting. I've reached a conclusion that as a Lead Manager I need to teach the skills of Reality Therapy through the eyes of a Lead Manager as I am interpreting the interplay of Reality Therapy and Lead Management. WDEP becomes RIDE the Want. RIDE = Relationship, Information, Doing, Evaluation; the = the helping environment; and Want = Quality World. The workshop aims to discuss the meaning of this variation of WDEP to RIDE the Want within a Lead Management situation.

Workshop 17
What Neuro-Science teaches us about Basic needs? Are they only Glassers hypothetical concepts or are there some neurological based evidence Proving the existence of emotional command systems in the human's brain? Ali Sahebi
In this interactive workshop the new findings of Neuro-Science about the Basic Emotional Command Systems (ECS) will be discussed. Ali Sahebi and Judy Hatswell will explore how the neuro-science revealed that there are some Pre wired Emotional Commands in everybody's brain the activation level of these systems are different in people's brain (what we call the strengths of needs). Everybody has seven ECS Pre-wired and Pre-programmed (brain based on his/hers genetic and early childhood experiences with environment). In this workshop we will see how the Neurological command systems are similar to what we call "Genetic Basic Needs" in Choice Theory. The New Findings of Neuro-science is evidence based proof for Basic needs and why we behave?
